The people of Kosciusko and Attala County are hardworking and industrious people, but they still take time for recreation and relaxation. Several lakes in the area provide opportunities for swimming, boating, fishing and water skiing.
There are 3 beautiful city parks with tennis courts, picnic areas, children's playgrounds, baseball and softball fields. A local golf course is available for the golfing buffs of the area. City sponsored recreation programs for all ages keep citizens happy and healthy. Deer and bird hunting are favorite pastimes of many Attala countians. Forests and fields in the area provide ample targets. Situated on the famous Natchez Trace (part of the National Park System), Kosciusko is within easy driving distance of numerous Trace picnic and camping grounds, nature trails and historic landmarks.
The Attala County Coliseum, on the Central Mississippi Fairgrounds in Kosciusko, is the home of
many community activities. With Kosciusko just 71 miles from Jackson, Mississippi, 155 miles from Memphis, Tennessee, and 250 miles from New Orleans, Louisiana, one can attend professional sports events as well as the many other activities available in the large cities. Kosciuskoians are indeed fortunate to have such complete recreation and cultural facilities at such close reach, yet be able to live in a country town environment. Major universities are located within 2 1/4 hours thus providing opportunities to spectate the SEC, SWAC and the Conference USA competition.
Two private clubs are located in Kosciusko: the Kosciusko Country Club and the Kosciusko Golf Club. The Country Club maintains a clubhouse, swimming pool, and tennis courts, and is situated around a lake to provide skiing and fishing. The Golf Club maintains an excellent nine-hole golf course, swimming pool and clubhouse. The Oprah Winfrey Boys and Girls Club opened in 2006, and serves 350 youth on a regular basis. This new “state of the art” facility has become a valuable asset to the entire community.
